The city of Clive is in both Polk and Dallas Counties. A special 2006 census estimates Clive's population at 14,000+. Clive is part of the Des Metropolitian Area. In 1962, Clive became part of the West Des Moines school district. Today, residents of Clive in Dallas county send their children to Waukee schools.
Originally a coal mining town and railroad shipping point, the old depot has been restored and still sits just off the 86th Street business district. A renovation of the 86th Street business district is an effort to offer citizens services closer to home. The community offers an aquatic center, library, trails, parks and local festivals.
